Located about six miles north of Downtown Rifle is Rifle Creek Golf Course, an award-winning golf course nestled against the Grand Hogback Ridge.

Located 15-minutes west of Rifle in Battlement Mesa is the Battlement Mesa Golf Club, an award-winning course that has been dubbed by Golf Digest as one of the “Best Courses in America You Can Play!” The course is surrounded by the small town of Battlement Mesa and features some of the best views and topography in Western Colorado.

The front nine rests in a valley in the mesa and has a few more trees than the back nine. The fifth, sixth and seventh holes are known around Battlement Mesa as “the gauntlet” — and for good reason. If you can get through this monstrous stretch, you will truly have tamed the Wild West!

The back nine at Battlement Mesa is nearly devoid of trees and offers a true high-desert experience on a mesa overlooking the Colorado River. While the vistas are more open, the final nine holes are just as demanding in terms of accuracy thanks to the presence of “The River.” From the eleventh and twelfth holes, golfers get their first look at the Colorado River, which flows at the bottom of a steep slope. That slope and the beautiful views continue on holes thirteen and fourteen. This is a tough course for hookers—you don’t want to be left on these holes!
