They can be accessed from a number of different points. From the west, visitors can access the Mamm Peak roadless area and the Battlement Reservoirs via Interstate 70 at Parachute. Cross the Colorado River on Garfield County Road (CR) 300 into the Town of Battlement Mesa. Go east on CR 302, which becomes CR 338, along Battlement Creek. At a signed pullout, this route becomes the 4WD Battlement Jeep Trail, and becomes FS 847 at the forest boundary. About 1.5 miles within the forest boundary, the Battlement Trail (2160) branches off to the left toward North Mamm Peak. This section of the trail is legal for ATVs and motorcycles. Stay on FS 847 to reach the Battlement Reservoirs. From I-70 in Rifle, take exit 90. Go south a short distance to the second roundabout. Exit the roundabout heading east on Airport Road. Head east about 3.5 miles to West Mamm Road. Turn right, and head south several miles, where you will make a sharp right turn. Continue heading generally southwest up the road. The pavement ends after 7 miles, and turns into a good gravel road. Stay left at 9.5 miles. Turn right onto Forest Road 653 after 10.2 miles. The turnoff is located at 39.4129 N/107.7990 W. Drive a quarter mile to the end of the road. This is the trailhead at an elevation 7,820’.
